About Principality Stadium

Principality Stadium was built on the site of the former Cardiff Arms Park's National Stadium and opened in 1999, in time to host the Rugby World Cup that year. Designed by the architectural firm Bligh Lobb Sports Architecture, it was one of the first stadiums in the world to feature a fully retractable roof, allowing events to proceed regardless of the weather. It originally opened as the Millennium Stadium before being renamed Principality Stadium in 2016 following a sponsorship agreement. The venue has hosted Rugby World Cup finals, FA Cup finals (while Wembley was being rebuilt), UEFA Champions League fixtures, and countless sold-out concerts, cementing its reputation as one of Europe's most versatile major venues.

The atmosphere inside Principality Stadium is widely regarded as among the finest in world rugby. The retractable roof, when closed, traps crowd noise and creates an intensity that is genuinely formidable, particularly during Wales internationals. The singing of traditional Welsh hymns and folk songs — most famously "Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau" — gives matchdays a distinctive, spine-tingling quality. Concert-goers equally benefit from the enclosed acoustics and the steep, close-set stands that bring every tier close to the action.

Principality Stadium is a landmark destination for live events in Cardiff with a capacity of about 74,500. Whatever you're here to see, Staadly's verified listings and interactive seat map help you find the right seat at the right price.
